Shalom Park Main Entrance Project

Published Monday, October 16, 2017

The Foundation of Shalom Park is making a major improvement to the main entrance.   They will be constructing an additional exit lane to serve as a right turn lane when leaving the Park.  This work will require temporary closure of the main entrance from Monday, October 30th until approximately Sunday, November 19.  During this time, the three remaining entrances/exits to Shalom Park (Temple Beth El on Providence, Temple Israel on Providence, and Jefferson Drive) will experience increased use.  The timing was determined by the City of Charlotte, which is implementing its own improvements on Providence Road, such as a cross-walk at the Shalom Park Drive light and additional sidewalks on Providence Road.

Our goal is to minimize the inconvenience experienced by members and visitors to Shalom Park.  The greatest concerns will be traffic back up during peak entry/exit times and difficulty turning left to go south on Providence Rd when leaving Shalom Park.   To that end, we will have a police officer directing traffic at the Jefferson Drive-Providence Road intersection to facilitate left turns during peak times.  Upon completion of the widening project, exiting the Park on to Providence Rd will be faster and more efficient---and that’s the really great news!

Below is information to help you manage your traffic pattern during the 3 week period:

  • Traffic must enter and exit through TBE and TI access roads or Jefferson Drive.  For all right hand turns, we strongly suggest using TBE & TI to alleviate the traffic on Jefferson Drive.
  • The City of Charlotte will begin a sidewalk project at our entrance that may start around December 1; our new right turn exit lane will be closed until the City completes their project.   This is necessary due to our curb being reconfigured as part of the City’s project.
  • Jefferson Drive residents will experience some disruption as a result of increased traffic.  Please drive carefully and slowly when using Jefferson Drive.
  • A CMPD officer will be positioned on Providence Road at Jefferson Drive at high traffic times to accommodate a left turn (south) on to Providence Rd; Providence Rd traffic will be stopped to allow the left turn from Jefferson Drive.

Thank you for you patience and understanding.
