Levine JCC Cares
The Levine JCC wants to engage its members in a variety of social action programs within the community. Under the banner of LJCC Cares, we will bring opportunities for families, seniors, adults and teens to perform Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and Gemilut Hasadim (acts of loving kindness) by serving the greater Charlotte community in ways that connect us with others and are motivated by the pressing issues of the day.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte
The mission of the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte is to provide the families of children being treated in area medical facilities with a safe, affordable and caring “home away from home.” It primarily serves families in the Southeast who travel a significant distance to receive specialized medical care at Levine Children’s Hospital and Hemby Children’s Hospital. The doors of the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte will always be open to families from across our region and beyond. Sign-ups are limited; must be at least 12 years old. Sign up by clicking on the Sign Up Genius link below.
Volunteer Meal Preparation teams plan a menu, purchase ingredients and prepare a home-cooked meal at the Ronald McDonald House for families staying there. All volunteers will be asked to donate a portion of the ingredients. Sign-ups are limited to eight volunteers, who must be at least 12 years old and accompanied by an adult.

Levine JCC Kids Triathlon
This annual event raises money for pediatric rehabilitative services at Levine Children’s Hospital and the Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program, which is part of Carolinas Rehabilitation. Children ages five through 14 swim, bike and run for a cause. Over its five-year history, more than $240,000 has been granted to LCH and ASAP. This money is raised via corporate sponsorships and individual fundraising by the participants. For more information, click here.
For information on corporate sponsorship of the 6th Annual LJCC Kids Triathlon, please contact Julie Rizzo at email@example.com or 704.944.6730. To volunteer at the event on June 4, 2017, please click here.
Room in the Inn
Since 1996, the Urban Ministry Center has partnered with colleges and congregations of many faiths to open their facilities to provide shelter and food for homeless people during the winter months. The LJCC, Temple Beth El and Temple Israel are privileged to be one of those partners. Each site offers a warm, safe place to sleep, serves three meals (dinner, breakfast and bag lunch) and then returns the guests the following morning to uptown Charlotte. The basic goal is to keep homeless people from freezing on cold winter nights. A greater goal is to provide a more personal relationship to homeless people, at least for a night, and to foster a deeper understanding of the depth and complexity of the issue.
