Shalom Park Safety & Security Information

Published Thursday, September 12, 2019 8:00 am

The City of Charlotte is having record car break-ins – over 800 per month.  They can are happen in public places and in the drive way at your home.   According to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) it is one of the hardest crimes to track and prosecute.

Shalom Park is not insulated from this upsetting and rising crime.  On Sunday, September 8th, we had three car break-ins, all occurring within a 2-minute  period.  It is a crime of opportunity.  It happens when we make ourselves a soft target – we leave purses, wallets, computers, cell phones and other electronics in plain sight, we leave our car fobs in view, and we leave the car running while we race into the building for “just a minute.”

We thank local law enforcement for their support – within minutes we had 3 FSP security guards, 3 CMPD officers and a crime investigator on site.  In most cases they cannot protect us from this crime, however, we can protect ourselves.  Please click here to read – How to Prevent a Car Break-in.  This safety information will tell you how to protect yourself from a car break-in and what to do if you are a victim of a break-in.

And if you are at Shalom Park, we ask that if you see something say something – call Shalom Park Security at 704-287-0527.
