Levine JCC Programs, Services, and Facility Update

Published Thursday, April 30, 2020 5:00 pm

To our JFAMILY,

I hope this email finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. I look forward to the day when we can all gather again at the Levine JCC and rekindle our relationships at our facilities, a place that adds so much value to all of our lives. The desire to resume our programs, services, and facility access for our community is shared by all of our members, our Staff, and our Board of Directors, as soon as we are able and most importantly, when it is safe to do so.

In mid-March we made the choice to commit wholly and uncompromisingly to community health and based our decision on the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS). Our suspension of normal operations was without question the appropriate leadership action, and that by so doing, we undoubtedly saved the lives of some of our community members.

As I’m sure you are aware, County Manager Dena Diorio rescinded the Mecklenburg County Stay at Home order and aligned with the North Carolina State order. Additionally, Governor Cooper outlined an initial strategy for reopening some businesses in North Carolina starting on or soon after May 8, 2020. Under certain guidelines, portions of our programs may begin to resume operations. We appreciate the Commissioner and Governor’s plans and actions and are actively studying the guidelines, consulting with health professionals, making modifications to our facilities, and providing necessary training to our staff in order to comply with the orders and conditions for resumption of our operations.

We are working towards our previously stated goal to resume portions of our services, programs, and facility access beginning Monday, May 11, 2020. At this time, JTENNIS will be the only program resuming on Monday, May 11th from 7am – 7pm, by reservation only.  Details on specific operations and procedures will be communicated in our weekly email next Thursday, May 7th

We understand that this decision may be inconvenient to some, but we will not waiver in our responsibility to provide the safest environment possible for our members, guests, and Staff.  We will communicate with you again in our weekly email next Thursday, May 7th, to share an update on our plans for resumption of portions of our operations.

We have received many questions about the status of summer camp for 2020. Our camp teams have been working around the clock preparing for every possibility. We will communicate to our Camp community mid to late May with an update on our plans for LJCC Summer Camps.

We want to thank the countless members who have maintained their commitment to the Levine JCC and supported our Staff Sustainability Fund through the continued payment of Membership dues and program fees.

We hope you are utilizing our full weekly schedule of fitness programs and enrichment activities.   Our entire library of YouTube classes are available to access anytime to ensure you stay active and engaged.  Our Personal Trainers are currently working with members and non-members to provide Virtual Personal Training options that fit their client’s needs.  If interested in Personal Training options, please contact Jenny.Crow@charlottejcc.org.

As we say in our tradition and I look forward to saying it with you soon: Shevet achim Y’chayom – We lived through that together.
