Levine JCC Summer Camp 2020 Updates
To our JFAMILY,
Months ago, you placed your trust in us to provide a healthy environment for your children’s Summer Camp experience. We work tirelessly to earn and maintain that trust and the responsibility that comes with it guides our decision making every year, and even more so in these challenging times. Every year we strive to create an engaging community for our campers to build life-long bonds with friends and camp staff. When evaluating our ability to offer Summer Camp at the Levine JCC we consulted with state and local officials, reviewed the guidelines that they and the CDC provided, and determined our ability to offer a program, not because we were legally allowed to do so, but only if we could do so in a healthy and safe environment.
We are pleased to inform you that we will operate some of our Summer Camp programs for the 2020 season. The decision to operate our Camps was made not as a blanket “yes or no,” but rather unit by unit, taking into consideration the specific needs of each Camp unit community. With the necessary safeguards in place, we look forward to welcoming our campers this summer.
In order to continue to create a program that ensures children’s health and safety, while also providing a developmentally appropriate program, we needed to make some difficult, yet necessary changes to the camp program. Our faith teaches us Pikuah Nefesh – the safeguarding of human lives, and the clarity of this value as second to none. For our LJCC, it is our ultimate obligation, and one we are prepared to meet this summer.
The following Summer Camps have been suspended for the Summer of 2020
- Camp Katan
- Preview Camp, Preview Art Camp, Encore Camp, Finale Camp, Lego Encore & Finale Camp, I’m A Big Kid Now Camp
- Teen Camp & CIT/LIT Camp & Athena’s Path
- Sports Specialty Camps: JLAX Lacrosse, All Sports, Soccer Skills, Dell Curry Basketball
- AM/PM Care for all camps
We understand that the world was a different place when you placed your trust in us, registered for camp, and began paying your tuition. We respect that this decision will please some and others will be unhappy, anxious, or still have questions about their feelings about sending their children to LJCC Summer Camps. Therefore, for all operating camps, we have eliminated all withdrawal charges through May 31st and have provided an extensive list of questions and answers you may have about how, when, and why we will operate our Summer Camp programs in 2020.
As has been our “new normal” these past 11 weeks, the current environment is fluid and constantly changing. Our process and some of our operational decisions may and likely will change in the coming days and weeks based on guidance from federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as the CDC and NC DHHS. While there may be some changes, you can be certain that your children will have a fun and meaningful summer. We will continue to communicate any updates to our camp program as they become available. Be sure to check back to our FAQs page for detailed information.
We appreciate the time you have given us to evaluate our Camp programs and our capacity to serve your children and families. Your patience allowed us to make informed decisions and we hope the information that we have provided you will offer the same space to make the right decision for your family. Whether or not you choose to be a part of Levine JCC Summer Camp this summer, you are always a part of the LJCC Community. Please reach out to LJCCCamps@charlottejcc.org with any questions or concerns.
With deep appreciation,
Chief Executive Officer
