Fitness Center Orientations: FREE
Meet with a fitness associate to learn the layout of the fitness center, how to use the cardio equipment and familiarize yourself with the strength equipment. We'll answer your questions about gym etiquette and the services that we offer. Click here to schedule a complimentary appointment. 

Personalized Fitness Plans:
Receive a workout that you can follow easily on your own with a digital link to videos and descriptions of the exercises, indicating the number of sets/reps/weight, etc. This will include how to progress the workout over a 3 – 6 month period. You will meet twice with a trainer who will discuss your goals, health concerns, how much time you have for training, and preferences for exercises and equipment. The trainer will design a routine based on the information gathered and meet with you again to explain each exercise and how to follow the routine. Your workout will be given to you in a digital format for you to follow on your own.

Body Composition Testing
How much of your weight comes from muscle, water and fat? We will explain your results and give you a printout that you can use to set goals for your workouts. Follow up with a second test, or with quarterly tests, to compare results and adjust your workouts as needed.

Fitness Programs

Weightlifting 101
The weight room can look intimidating and seem confusing! Learn how to determine the # of set/reps you should be doing and how to choose between dumbbells, barbells, cables & machines. Gain confidence by learning correct form, common mistakes to avoid, and proper gym etiquette. You’ll build a solid fitness routine based on your personal goals. 

Foundation Training
A simple solution that gives you the means to change the way you move and correct the imbalances caused by our modern habits. Through a series of body-weight exercises, Foundation Training activates your posterior muscle chain, anchors the hips, decompresses the spine, and teaches you to take the burden of supporting the body out of your joints and put it where it belongs; in your muscles. No matter your age or your fitness level, Foundation Training puts you on the path to wellness.

Tai Chi/Qigong
This class is designed for all levels of fitness to learn the forms of Tai Chi. Improve your strength, balance, circulation, and coordination, all in a fun and safe environment. 

JFORCE
JFORCE is a team training program designed to challenge people of all skill levels. With a mix of cardio, resistance training, and core exercises, the program focuses on developing functional strength. JFORCE members, ranging in age from 16-70, push themselves and each other to take on a different workout each day. 

Intro to Martial Arts: Ages 13+
Explore a variety of disciplines in this introductory course. You’ll get a taste of Karate, Muy Thai, Kickboxing, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitso, Sambo, and Judo.

FAQs & Etiquette

How old do I need to be to access the David Silverman Fitness Center?
Members must be at least 13 years old to enter the fitness center. The Fitness staff reserves the right to determine if an exercise is not safe for a minor on an individual basis based on observation.
 

How do I use the equipment? 
Please see a fitness attendant if you need help with our equipment.  You can also find helpful tips by scanning the QR Code found on the strength machines. 

How many times around the track equals 1 mile?
Indoor Track: 12 laps 
Outdoor Track: 8.5 laps 

Do I need to reserve a spot for cardio or strength equipment or group ex classes?
No reservation is needed.

Is there a time limit on the equipment?  
There is a 45 minute limit for cardio equipment when someone is waiting to use it.

How do I get an orientation?
Please call the Fitness Center at 704-944-6798 and a staff member will be happy to set up an orientation.

Are there alternative spaces to use if the Fitness Center is too busy?
Weights, mats and other fitness equipment can be found in the areas at the top of the stairs that lead to the upstairs track.  Please clean and return equipment after use.

Etiquette:

  • Wipe off equipment when you are finished.
  • Allow others to work in (take turns) with you.
  • Return all equipment to the proper location.
  • No talking on your cell phone in the fitness center.
  • Do not play music without headphones.
  • No open-toed shoes are allowed in the fitness center (flip flops, sandals, etc).
  • Only Levine JCC trainers are allowed to train members.

Group Fitness

Our Group Exercise classes are taught by certified instructors and are based upon the latest aerobic conditioning and resistance training research. We offer over 80 aerobic classes per week and modifications are always demonstrated so that you can achieve your best workout. Group exercise classes are energizing, motivating, challenging, and fun.  A new, lighter version of group exercise classes are also available for all Levine JCC members.
