ELEANOR THE GREAT is Scarlett Johansson's directorial debut, starring June Squibb as a witty but troubled 94-year-old, Eleanor Morgenstein, who moves to New York City after the death of her lifelong best friend. Seeking connection, she befriends a young student, Nina (Erin Kellyman), but then tells a story that isn't hers, a tale she claims is from her Holocaust survivor past, which takes on a dangerous life of its own. The film is a comically poignant exploration of grief, friendship, and the stories we tell, with actual Holocaust survivors appearing in supporting roles to add authenticity.
