At the J we want to help children develop active lifestyles. Integrating knowledge, skill building, and activity,  will help show children that fitness is important to their well-being. In addition to a variety of fitness opportunities, we offer sports such as tennis, basketball, soccer, and more! Courses seasonal and subject to change. 

Preschool Athletic Classes

Gym-Bees: 3–5 year olds 
Learn gymnastics on specially designed preschool equipment, gain confidence and learn in a playful environment. Develop tumbling skills, balance and upper/lower body coordination. 

Preschool Basketball: 4–5 year olds
Introduces dribbling, passing, shooting and defense in non-competitive skill drills, games and actual play.

Preschool Sports Club: 3–5 year olds
Introduces basic sports skills through relays, stations, and sport activities that will enhance motor skills. 

Stepping Stones T-Ball: 3-5 year olds
Play America’s favorite pastime sport. Fun, non-competitive class that teaches basic baseball skills.

Stepping Stones Soccer: 3-5 year olds 
Introduction to soccer to learn basic soccer skills. Fun, non-competitive class. Get ready for the Micro-soccer league!

Zumba Kids Jr.: 4–6 year olds
Come join the dance party! Preschoolers will have a blast dancing to different sounds from around the world. They will explore new cultures and rhythms through games and movements.

JHOOPS Fundamentals: K-4th Grade
Learn basic basketball fundamentals, such as dribbling, passing, shooting, defense and offense in this fun, non-competitive class.

Beginning Gymnastics: K–3rd Grade
An introduction to the world of gymnastics. Learn the basics of all four Olympic events: Vault, Bars, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. Prior gymnastics experience not required.

Flag Football: K–5th Grade
Introduces football basics, strategies, team work and game play in a constructive learning environment. Non-contact.

Youth Karate & Martial Arts: 2nd - 5th Grade
Martial arts are a way of life. Beyond learning to defend oneself and grow stronger, Karate and other styles have been practiced for thousands of years across generations to develop skillfulness, a deeper connection to the world and a mastery of the self. This class teaches martial arts techniques from many styles, with a focus on Karate, Muay Thai and Boxing, as well as a mindset geared for continual improvement. Practicing martial arts is a challenge, but can also be the path to becoming the strongest possible version of yourself. 

JHOOPS Basketball Training with Titus Ivory 
Titus Ivory brings over 30 years of experience in coaching, training, and mentoring student-athletes to the city of Charlotte and the surrounding area. Coach Ivory has coached and trained athletes on the recreational, high school, collegiate, and professional levels. Charlotte native and graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, Ivory played basketball collegiately at Penn State University, after a standout high school career in basketball, football, and track and field. At Penn State, Ivory earned All-Big Ten and Defensive Player of the Year Honors. During the 2001 NCAA Tournament, Ivory scored 21 points against fifth-ranked University of North Carolina, helping Penn State to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 45 years.

Micro Basketball - Ages: 4 and 5 year olds
In–house league. Meets Sunday afternoons during January and February. Clinic-style basketball program with all basics of the game covered under skilled supervision. Smaller balls and goals used. Get ready for hoopsters.

Under 8 Hoopsters - Ages: 6 and 7 year olds
In-house league. Meets December through February. All practices and games are at the JCC (Levine Gymnasiums). Saturday afternoon practice. Sunday afternoon game. 8 players make up each team. 4 vs 4 on court for games. 8 & 1/2ft baskets – half court.

Under 10 Hoopsters - Ages: 8 and 9 year olds
In-house league. Meets December through February. All practices and games are at the JCC (Levine Gymnasiums). Saturday afternoon practice. Sunday afternoon game. 8-10 players make up each team. 5 vs 5 on court for games. 10ft baskets – full court.

Interfaith Basketball
Area recreational league. All practices are at the LJCC (Levine Gymnasiums). Games are at different churches throughout Charlotte and at LJCC (Levine Gymnasiums) for some age groups. 10-11 players make up each team.
You cannot participate on these teams if you are on your school team
Girls: Grades 4 thru 10
Boys: Grades 4 thru 12

NFL Flag Football League

NFL Flag Football: Grades K - 11th

We will assign teams and divisions based on age, skill level, and enrollment. Games will be played every Sunday with time fluctuating week to week. The schedule will be posted online.

Practices will be one weeknight per week and will be determined by the coach of the team. Each player will receive an NFL Flag Reversible Jersey. Refereed Games. Only offered during Fall & Spring.

Parent & Me Soccer - Ages 2.5 - 3 years old
Introduction of fundamental soccer principles and rules through fun and games!  Parent participation required. 

Micro Soccer - Ages 4 and 5 years old  
Recreational, in-house league meets fall and spring on Sunday afternoons. All practices and games held at LJCC (Ostrow Athletic Fields). 8 players make up each team.  4 vs 4 on field for games.  

Junior Soccer - Ages: 6 and 7 year olds  
Recreational, in-house league meets fall and spring on Sunday afternoons. All practices and games held at LJCC (Ostrow Athletic Fields). 8 – 12 players make up each team. 6 vs 6, including goalie on the field for games.
