“I love that my kids are enjoying the JCC as much as I did.”

Nikki’s Story:

My parents moved to Charlotte before I was born, so I have been an LJCC member since day one! I attended summer camps, always looked forward to Jammin at the J, high school BBYO, and workouts at the gym. As adults, Jake and I joined the J when we moved to Charlotte and it is so special and full circle to raise my kids here.

The JCC has been such a foundation for us as we transitioned to new parents.  We have made some of our closest friends, and our kid’s closest friends, from the JTOTS program and other children’s programming.  The JKid Club has also been amazing to have a safe, fun space for our kids to play while Jake and I can use the gym or play tennis.  Our kids even ask to go play there just for fun!  I love that my kids are enjoying the JCC as much as I did.  Whether it’s Camden playing with his friends after JCC specials, or Sloane excitedly waving to the security officers as we walk through the main entrance, both kids feel at home when at the JCC.

At the JCC, I always see a familiar face. My mom participates in JForce, my dad uses the indoor pool/pickleball, and my friends and I love attending group exercise classes with friends.  It is amazing to have one meeting place to run into so many family and friends.

Over the next 40 years, I hope the LJCC continues to be a place that supports its community. The JCC has something for everyone and really brings people together.

Jake’s story:

I grew up in Richmond, VA where the JCC was a major part of my upbringing. I attended preschool, summer camps, BBYO, and always ran into someone I knew.  It was a home away from home.

In high school, Nikki and I met in BBYO and I came to Charlotte for the “Sweetheart Beau” winter dance. That was my first time at the Levine JCC!

Fast forward a few years, when Nikki and I moved to Charlotte, we joined the JCC. I wanted that same community feel for my kids to have as a foundation of their childhood.  We use the J for almost everything! JTots, CJP, after-school enrichments, pickleball, tennis, BBYO mentorship, summer camps, JKid Club, and of course the pool.  You can catch us here almost every day!

One thing that stands out about the Levine JCC is the friendly staff. The front desk and security team, coaches, camp counselors, and JKid Club staff are so welcoming and happy to see our family. It truly makes visiting the JCC feel special!

As we look to the next 40 years, I hope the JCC remains a multi-generational community center that focuses on athletics, inclusion, involvement, and celebrating Jewish culture. I hope the Levine JCC remains a place to socialize with members and enhance our Jewish community.
