“Our children grew up, our grandchildren are growing up, some great-grandchildren have arrived, and we are still dancing together!”

I first came to the J before it was officially the J. Back in 1979 it was known as The Amity Club and was on Sharon Amity Road.

As a newly minted Instructor, I came to teach Jacki’s Dance but quickly found much more. Pre- and post- class chats grew into coffees and lunches where we got to know each other, sharing our challenges and joys. Our children grew up—our grandchildren are growing up—some great grandchildren have arrived, and we are still dancing together!

Through it all the J has been an ever-changing anchor, continuing to expand the physical facility to accommodate more members as well as providing a rich diversity of programming.

During the early construction phase, we participated in an Open House showcasing the proposed new facility and programs: we danced outside on a concrete pad. Look at our dance floor now!

During Covid we learned to ZOOM so we could get together to dance and chat from the safety of our own living rooms.

We still have one Jacki’s Dance ZOOM class each week. And I make class videos available for members to access “on demand” and for use when I must miss teaching a class.

The Laurie Prager Dennis Endowment Fund was created by her husband in her memory because Laurie loved Jacki’s Dance class and the friendships she made here. The Fund provides financial support for members who need adult exercise programs.

The J leadership has done an impressive job of balancing the need for good security with maintaining an open and welcoming space.

It is exciting to belong here, to get to be part of the next chapter.

A Tribute to Sara

From Lyn, Director of Fitness

"I'm not only grateful for Sara, I have a deep admiration for her. She has never rested on her years of experience, but is always learning, adapting to new technology and encouraging others to do the same. She cares deeply for this community. Not only does she know the names of everyone in her class, she could likely tell you the names of their kids and grandkids!

Sara exemplifies every one of our core values. Her compassion and hospitality have created a community built on wellness, strengthened through more than 40 years of excellence. Now that's a legacy!"
